The only complaint I have about this book is that it is definitely written towards dads whose tweens are immersed in the culture and involved in the KGOY (Kids Getting Older Younger) marketing blitz. Although a bit hard to get accustomed to, the novel immediately shot to the top of my favorites and I was recommending it to everyone. The characters in Don Emmanuel’s fictional country did not speak up in their own voices. Everything we love about Reacher is here: his stoicism, his realism, his (almost) complete control of the world around him, with some violence and sex and Wild West justice thrown in to a terrific whodunnit. In 2008 author Linwood Barclay made a major splash on the mystery/thriller scene when his novel NO TIME FOR GOODBYE was nominated for Best Novel by the International Thriller Writers Association. Lehane mixes the complexities of past and present brilliantly and, in doing so, creates a world that stays with the reader long after the book is finished. You will enjoy this book if you've loved all her others.
